Romney speaks in Cleveland

CLEVELAND — Down in the polls, but sounding upbeat, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney asked about 3,500 supporters at the I-X Center this afternoon to help him defeat President Obama on Tuesday.

“He’s offering excuses; I’ve got a plan. I can’t wait for us to get going. He wants us to settle,” he told the cheering crowd. “Our destiny is in your hands. Two more days. Two more days and we can get to work rebuilding our country.”

Romney, accompanied by his wife, Ann Romney, offered few specifics in his approximately 25-minute speech but promised to create jobs by increasing coal mining and oil drilling while cutting nonmilitary spending by 5 percent. He promised to repeal ObamaCare and vowed to cut federal regulations enacted by Obama, which Romney said were killing jobs.
