About 14,000 homes, businesses without power around county

Just over 14,000 homes and businesses in Lorain County remain without power as the effects of Hurricane Sandy batter the area. Just before noon nearly 20,000 customers were without power.

Avon Lake has the most outages with 5,920 customers affected, according to FirstEnergy.

According to FirstEnergy, outages may be lengthy but crews are assessing the situation and will being work to restore power as soon as it's safe to do so.

FirstEnergy reminds residents to treat all down wires as if they are live and to immediately report them to their power company or local safety forces.
