ELYRIA — An alleged burglar was shot and killed overnight by a resident on Water Street, according to Elyria police.
Police responded to 112 Water St. about 2:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a burglary in progress.
Police made contact with the home's residents, a husband and wife, who told them the burglar had been shot. Police did not say who shot the burglar.

The alleged burglar was taken to EMH Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
According to police, the couple's home was broken into yesterday, and their television was stolen.
The were awakened early today to find a male in their living room believed to be stealing the remaining electronics. The resident called out to the male, who then lunged at the resident, police said. The resident, who was armed with a handgun, then fired, police said.
Police have not identified the residents or the alleged burglar, other than to say that he was a 29-year-old white male from Elyria.
The incident remains under investigation.
