CARLISLE TWP. — A fight over a wallet led to an Amherst man being stabbed around 1:50 a.m. Monday in the 38000 block of Butternut Ridge Road, police said.
Matthew Lawler said he repeatedly stabbed Corey Pincura, according to a report by Deputy Richard Nisenboum of the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office. Lawler said he stabbed Pincura because Pincura attacked his sister, who was intervening in the fight over the wallet between Pincura and another man.
Pincura, 21, of the 1200 block of North Quarry Road was found in a parking lot with wounds on his back, stomach and left arm, Nisenboum wrote. Pincura was hospitalized in fair condition at MetroHealth Medical Center Tuesday.
Lawler was found a short distance away looking for car keys.
“I just stabbed that kid. We gotta go now,” witness Cory Layport said he overheard Lawler say, according to the report.
A bloody knife with hair on the blade was found in Lawler’s pocket, Nisenboum wrote. Lawler was charged with felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon.
Lawler, 21, of the 42000 block of Galaxy Drive in Elyria, was being held Tuesday at the Lorain County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond. He is due back Monday in Elyria Municipal Court.
