ELYRIA – An Elyria man suspected to be under the influence of bath salts was found jumping up and down hitting his head off a utility pole.
Police were dispatched to Middle Avenue and Oberlin Avenue around noon Friday.
Lt. Chris Costantino said the initial report was that the man had been hit by a car or had jumped in front of a car, but no car was found in the vicinity. Instead, he said the man was jumping up and down and then began hitting his head off of a utility pole.
“He was sweating profusely, and he was mumbling,” he said.
Costantino said it took four officers to restrain the man, and he was taken to the hospital. He said by the signs the man exhibited, he was likely under the influence of bath salts, a hallucinogenic drug.
Costantino said the incident would be investigated, and the man’s name would not be released at this time. He said the man was believed to live in the area.
