Photo gallery: Taiko drum group performs at Oberlin

Oberlin College senior John Paddock, a member of the Taiko drumming group at the college, works his way down a series of drums during a performance Sunday at Hales Gym at Oberlin College.

Cassie Guevara, an Oberlin College junior, of West Nyack, N.Y., is in the pony tail.

Paddock, majoring in biochemistry, is from Harrison Township, Mich.

There are 13 members in the group, which started in the fall of 2008.

The “Kumi-daiko” style of Taiko was invented in Japan in the 1950s by Daihachi Oguchi as an upbeat form of musical art to counter the post-World War II period.

The Taiko drum group next performs 3 p.m. May 26 on Tappan Square.
