Benefit concert planned for injured teacher

Alumni from Firelands High School are organizing a benefit concert to support Jim Muth, the social studies teacher who remains in a coma after a car accident Nov. 22.

Emily McBennett, who graduated in 2006, said she got involved with the concert because Muth was her favorite teacher when she was in high school.

“He got me to love history because I used to hate history,” she said.

The concert will be 6 p.m. March 30 at Firelands High School. It costs $5 at the door. Bands performing will include JaROCK, Rusted Horses and Burning Salem. WOBL-AM will be broadcasting live from the concert.

McBennett said the group is looking for people to help set up before the concert, donate refreshments and let them use canopies outside. Anyone who wishes to help should call McBennett at (440) 610-4712.

The group has created a public Facebook event called, “Mr. Muth Benefit Concert.”

Money raised from the benefit will go to the Muth family as well as a charity of their choice.
