AVON LAKE — A man from Euclid was arrested Thursday after he reportedly tried to carjack a woman at Speedway.
Bryan Schiffbauer, 23, is charged with robbery and assault and is being held in the Lorain County Jail, according to Avon Lake police.
Police were called to the gas station, at state Route 83 and Walker Road, at 11:52 a.m. Thursday.
The caller said Schiffbauer had approached a woman after she finished pumping gas and had grabbed her from her vehicle and gotten into her car in an attempt to take it.
The woman screamed for help, and other customers along with construction workers who were on the job at the gas station were able to hold Schiffbauer on the ground until officers arrived, according to police.
Schiffbauer was placed into custody without further incident.
The woman, a 48-year-old Avon Lake resident, said she had noticed Schiffbauer walking back and forth while she pumped gas. She said he pointed something at her from inside his coat to make her believe he had a weapon.
No one was injured in the incident, and no weapon was found on Schiffbauer, according to police.
Police said two customers who assisted the woman were Ronald Cherni and Brian Williams.
