North Ridgeville teacher accused of possible relationship with student

NORTH RIDGEVILLE — A North Ridgeivlle High School teacher is under investigaton for a possible sexual relationship with a student and for having texted photos of herself, one showing her in a bikini top, to a student.

According to police, the teacher, who has been put on paid administrative leave and has not been identified, has admitted to texting two pictures of herself to a student. The woman was fully clothed in both photos, including the one in which she was wearing a bikini top.

Police, who will further detail the case in a 1 p.m. press conference, said the teacher has also admitted to having “inappropriate and flirtatious” conversations, mainly via texting, with one to two students. These inappropriate conversations are alleged to have begun over the summer with at least one of the students, police said.

Since police began their investigation of the case Wednesday, allegations have surfaced that a relationship between the teacher and one student may have progressed to what police termed a physical sexual relationship. The woman has denied having sexual relations with any student.

The matter came to the attention of police after a high school teacher heard rumors Wednesday over alleged inappropriate pictures of a teacher being sent to at least one high school student, police said.

Information was first brought forward to James Rutledge, assistant high school principal, after which a criminal investigation was begun by North Ridgeville Sgt. Adam Freas, who has been recognized for his work in investigating cases involving individuals involved in transmitting online communications of a sexual nature.

Police said it is likely the case will be presented to a grand jury for possible charges at the conclusion of the investigation.
