Elyria Charities steps up to help replace stolen meat

ELYRIA — Another charity has offered to pay more than enough to replace $200 worth of meat stolen from Hospitality House.

Bill Speidel, executive director of Elyria Charities, said his organization would donate $500 to Hospitality House. Elyria Charities generally specializes in supporting education.

“They do a tremendous job in the city here,” Speidel said about Hospitality House’s work in giving food, household items and clothing to people who need it.

On Monday, volunteers at Hospitality House noticed $200 worth of meat, along with items like toothbrushes, hand sanitizer, deodorant and soap, had been stolen over the weekend. The food and sanitary items were to be given to those in need.

Rita Denomme, the volunteer who reported the incident to Elyria police, expressed gratitude about the offer and said she hadn’t heard about more donations as a result of the theft.
