ELYRIA — A man who had just left a downtown bar early Saturday morning told police he was stabbed by someone who ran up behind him.
Gregory Barnes, 25, of Elyria was first taken to EMH Medical Center in Elyria for treatment of a stab wound to his left shoulder, Elyria police reports said. Hospital personnel said Barnes was subsequently taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where he was listed in good condition.
According to police reports, Barnes had just stepped outside the Mardi Gras Lounge on Washington Avenue about 2:30 a.m. Saturday and turned to walk toward Broad Street when he felt as if he had been hit in the back, he told police. Falling down, Barnes felt a wet spot on his back and went back inside the bar to find a friend, who drove him to the hospital.
Barnes told police he saw no one at the time of the assault and said he knew of no one who had a grudge against him or whom he owed money to.
