Shots fired after fistfight in McDonald's parking lot

LORAIN -- Quick tempers outside a fast food restaurant triggered gunfire about 4:55 a.m. Monday.

Fisticuffs preceded the gunfire in the parking lot of the McDonald’s at 3221 Oberlin Ave., a witness told police and The Chronicle-Telegram.

A witness, whom The Chronicle-Telegram is not identifying to ensure his safety, said he was inside the restaurant and saw two men in a fistfight in the parking lot with three or four men around them prior to hearing five or six gunshots. The witness said he didn’t see the shooter, but the shots sounded like they came from pistol and were not rapid fire.

The witness said the shots sounded like they came from the same gun rather than an exchange of gunfire.

“There was shooting at one time and then there was like, a pause, and then there was two or three more shots,” he said. “Like they were trying to get the person, but they kept missing.”

After the shots rang out, the witness said the six or seven employees in the restaurant fled to the back of the building and called police. No one inside the restaurant was reported hurt. Only the drive-through of the restaurant was open at the time of the shooting, the witness said.

A black SUV, possibly a Chrysler Pacifica, license plate SGS-7469, and a silver Ford Contour or Mercury Mystique fled the scene, the witness told police.

Around 8:40 a.m., police were notified about a bullet hole found in the front store window of the Cash Smart payday loan store at 3342 Oberlin Ave., according to a report by police Officer John Kovach. A spent round was found inside the store, which is across the street from the McDonald’s.
