LORAIN --A motorcyclist severely injured after colliding with a van around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday ran a red light, according to the van's driver and another witness.
Witness Charlene Baker said she was at a nearby pizza parlor when she heard a motorcycle accelerate and then saw it travel eastbound on West 30th Street at a high rate of speed through a red light and into the Broadway intersection, according to a report by Lorain Police Officer Robert Hargreaves.
The cyclist, Jeremy Morales, 24, of the 300 block of West 31st Street, struck the minivan on the driver’s side.
The van was driven by Sarah Moore of the 2800 block of North Jefferson Boulevard. She told police she had a green light and tried to swerve but was unable to avoid Morales.
Morales, who sustained head and leg injuries, was taken by helicopter to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Moore sustained minor injuries.
