Events to honor Officer Kerstetter

  • Tonight, the Elyria Police Department will remember Officer James A. Kerstetter with a short public honoring at 10 p.m. in front of the Elyria police station. Officers and community members will observe a moment of silence at 10:14 p.m. followed by remarks from the department chaplain. Guests are encouraged to share anecdotes and stories remembering the officer.
  • Officer James A. Kerstetter’s name will be added to the Ohio Peace Officer Memorial and honored at a ceremony to take place May 5 at the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy in London, Ohio.
  • Officer James A. Kerstetter’s name will also be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., during National Police Week, May 15 to May 21.
  • The first annual James A. Kerstetter Car Show will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 29 at the Elyria Big Lots, 1020 E. Broad St. Elyria. The first 100 cars receive a dash plaque with a minimum $10 donation. There will be raffles, 50/10 drawings and food vendors. Music will be provided by Tall Order Services. All proceeds from the event will go to the James A. Kerstetter College Scholarship Fund. For more information or to make a donation, call (440) 218-9048.
