ELECTION 2008: County commissioner hopefuls gear up for primary

SHEFFIELD TWP. — Five Democrats who want to be county commissioner will battle in next Tuesday’s primary to go up against two unopposed Republicans in November.

Incumbent Democrat Lori Kokoski will defend her seat against challengers Dave George and Kathleen Rednour.

The winner will face Republican Martin O’Donnell in November.

In the other race, Democratic incumbent Ted Kalo will take on challenger Joshua Meszes. That winner will go up against Republican Nick Brusky in the general election.

It could be a slam-dunk for the two incumbents if campaign spending has anything to do with it.

Campaign finance reports, filed Thursday with the county elections office, show Kokoski has spent $9,813.48 — almost as much as her two opponents combined.

Kalo raised $37,636.16 and has spent $9,915.07, but Meszes didn’t raise or spend even $1,000.

We asked the opposing Democratic candidates some questions about where they stand on the issues. See postings here and here for their answers.
