ELYRIA - A diesel spill on state Route 57 northbound near Chestnut Ridge Road briefly stalled traffic early Monday as fire and road crews worked to contain the spill, fire officials said.
Shortly before 5:30 a.m., a 16-wheel tractor-trailer and a car collided near the intersection. The impact caused the truck`s fuel tank to rupture, spilling more than 20 gallons of diesel fuel on the roadway. Fire and city road crews used about 12 bags of an absorbent sand product to clean up the spill while Elyria police officers blocked traffic in the northbound lanes.
No one was injured in the accident and the road was reopened within 90 minutes.
