Pickup hits Amish trailer

WELLINGTON TWP. — An Amish trailer was struck by a pickup on state Route 301 near Jones Road about 7 p.m. Wednesday, causing only minor injuries and spilling apples over the road, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Theodore Poesse, 43, of Spencer, was charged with failure to maintain assured clear distance after he drove his 2005 Chevy 2500 into the rear of a trailer on the right side of the road, Trooper Charles Jackson said.

Two boys were holding lanterns in the back of a homemade trailer pulled by horses, but the light was not enough to catch Poesse’s attention, Jackson said. The boys refused medical treatment for their small cuts and bruises, he said.
