Men arrested for attempted break-in at cafe

ELYRIA — Two men who police say botched a restaurant break-in shortly after midnight Saturday quickly found themselves behind bars.

According to an Elyria police report, Mark Zuckerman and Bruce Brown, both 42, of Elyria, planned to burglarize the Lowell Street Café but were instead rounded up by police patrolling nearby.

After a tipster reported a suspect was trying to enter the building’s back door, police found Zuckerman in a 1986 Ford F-150 about 500 feet from the café with Brown’s girlfriend, Linda Kinter, 45, of Lorain, the report said. Brown was found walking near Foster and Seneca avenues.

During the ride to Elyria City Jail, Zuckerman continually shifted around in the back seat of the squad car, officers said in the report.

At the end of the trip, they found a burnt glass tube coated with cocaine residue in the back seat, the report said.

Zuckerman was charged with tampering with evidence, drug abuse cocaine, breaking and entering, possessing criminal tools and drug paraphernalia. Brown was charged with complicity to breaking and entering.
