Report: 100 new jobs headed to county

ELYRIA — A wireless carrier plans to announce today that it will create more than 100 new jobs in the county.County officials are keeping the details of the announcement quiet at the request of the company, which has scheduled a news conference for 2 p.m. today.

County Administrator Jim Cordes described the jobs as service industry-oriented but declined to provide specifics.

“It’s going to be another announcement of a significant, and I mean significant, number of jobs,” he said.

Today’s announcement comes on the heels of Colorado-based TeleTech Corp.’s announcement in August that it would hire 500 people to work at a medical call center in Amherst. Company officials said then that TeleTech will renovate a Park Avenue office building for the center.

The company was scheduled to start training this month.

County Commissioner Ted Kalo said today’s announcement is another example of the county’s economic development groups, such as Team Lorain County and the county’s Growth Partnership, doing what they’re supposed to — bringing in new business and creating jobs.
