ELYRIA — The county commissioners approved spending $411,033 to develop 12 new hangars at the Lorain County Regional Airport.
The contract, with Kwest Group, will create the hangars to be sold to pilots and airplane owners. The project will be paid for using a combination of funds from Community Development Block Grants, Johnston Aviation and the Federal Aviation Administration.
“This is a project we have been talking about for a while,” County Administrator James Cordes said. “This is the first significant improvement to the airport in more than a decade.”
Community Development Director Ronald Twining said the project will create $1.6 million in taxable property.
Commissioners also approved spending $20,000 to seal cracks on the runway.
In other business, the commissioners agreed to shell out $73,000 to the Lorain County Veteran Service Commission —- the agency was that much short in its budget, officials said.
