VAN WERT, Ohio (AP) — Five people, including three emergency medical technicians, died Friday when an ambulance they were riding in was broadsided at an intersection and caught fire, the State Highway Patrol said.
The ambulance, with four Antwerp Emergency Medical Services workers aboard, was transporting two victims from an earlier car accident to a hospital at about 7 p.m. when it was struck by the other vehicle in Crane Township, about 65 miles southwest of Toledo.
Three EMS workers and the two victims from the earlier accident were killed in the crash. The fourth EMS worker and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to a hospital, the patrol said.
Names of the victims were being withheld pending the notification of the families, and the patrol continues to investigate the accident.
