Fourth of July: Holiday festivities, Closings


Holiday festivities

* Bay Village: The annual Bay Days festival will coincide with Independence Day activities. The festival will be open noon to 10:30 p.m. daily through Wednesday. A concert by the Fabulous Four Lads will be at 7:30 p.m. today at the Gazebo.Fourth of July activities include a bike, trike and wagon parade at 11:30 a.m. at the Gazebo, located on Cahoon Road next to the Community House and Memorial Rose GardenGames for adults and children will start 2 p.m. at Cahoon Soccer Field. A concert by Lakeside Jazz will be at the Gazebo.
Fireworks will begin at
9:45 p.m. Rain date is Thursday.

* Elyria: Independence Day festivities will be today in Cascade Park. The main concession stand will open at 4:30 p.m. and three other stands at 6 p.m. Free concerts by local bands, Panther and Yellow Delicious, are slated during the evening. Panther will take to the main stage at 6:45 p.m.; followed by a performance by Yellow Delicious at 8 p.m.
Games for all ages will begin 7:30 p.m. and a free nature walk will start at 8 p.m. Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m.
Parking will be available at Elyria Catholic High School, where buses will pick up spectators and drop them off at the sledding hill at Cascade Park on Foster Avenue, beginning at 6 p.m. Shuttle transportation will reverse back to the Elyria Catholic lot at the conclusion of the fireworks show.
Handicapped parking will be available in Cascade Park and is limited to the first 50 cars. Blue handicapped stickers must be shown in order to park in the handicapped spaces.
Fireworks, sparklers, pets and alcohol are not permitted in Cascade Park.

* Grafton: The annual Independence Day parade will begin with lineup 5:30 p.m. today behind the businesses on Chestnut Street. The parade will step off at 6:30 p.m.
The Grafton-Midview Business Association will sponsor a party in the park from 5 to 11 p.m. today in Willow Park.

* Lorain: A free concert by Dave C. and the Sharptones will precede the Independence Day fireworks celebration from 8 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Lakeside Landing. Fireworks will be launched from Spitzer Marina’s mile-long pier area at dusk. Rain date is Thursday.

* Rochester Township: The 88th annual Fourth of July Homecoming will begin with the opening of the food tent at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Eagle Street Park and Fire Station in Rochester.
Parade registration will be 9 to 10:15 a.m., followed by the parade at 10:30 a.m. The parade traverses down the parade route twice for spectators.
The Historical Society will host an Open House noon to 5 p.m., which will feature a rifle/cannon demonstration by the 21st Ohio Volunteer Light Artillery.
Contests for all age groups will begin at 4 p.m.; followed by rides and games, including the Firemen’s Games and musical entertainment at 5 p.m.
Fireworks will finish the festivities at dusk. Fireworks are sponsored by the Homecoming Committee and the Rochester Volunteer Fire Department.

* North Ridgeville: The Independence Day celebration will be today at South Central Park, 7565 Avon Belden Road, North Ridgeville. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. and include an inflatable obstacle course, games and prizes, face painting, snow cones, blood drive, and more throughout the day. Crafting will be from 4 to 6 p.m. and local teen bands will perform from 2 to 7 p.m.
A free concert will be performed at the Gazebo preceding the fireworks, and ice cream concessions will be available 7 to 11 p.m.
Fireworks will be at dusk.

* Wellington: Festivities begin with an ice cream social at 6 p.m. today on the front lawn of the Town Hall in Wellington. Free ice cream cones will be provided by Village Market and Dairyman’s. A free concert featuring music by the Patriot’s Symphonic Band will follow at 7 p.m. The concert is sponsored by Allen Medical Center.

Festivities continue with a pet parade, activities and games, at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Howk Park in front of the Town Hall. Games in the park will start at 1 p.m. Lifeshare Blood services will host a drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce on Willard Memorial Square.
Lineup for the parade at 2:30 p.m. behind McCormick Middle School on Courtland Street. The parade will start at 3 p.m. The Wellington Eagles will be the parade marshals, and Virginia Haynes will be the master of ceremonies.
Preschool games will be in the park at 4 p.m., followed by a frog-jumping contest at 4:30 p.m. and a free concert by the Wellington Community Chorus at the First Congregational United Church of Christ at 5 p.m.

Holiday closings
ELYRIA — Government offices at the city, county, state and federal levels will be closed Wednesday in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
 Area banks and post offices also will be closed for the day, as will E-check stations. Trash collections by the city and Allied Waste Services will be suspended Wednesday, with pickup resuming Thursday and running a day behind for the rest of the week.
Lorain County Transit buses also will be idle Wednesday.
Retail establishments will be open according to individual schedules.
