ELYRIA — The county commissioners — all Democrats — unanimously passed a resolution Thursday calling for the U.S. military to pull out of Iraq as soon as possible.
Commissioner Lori Kokoski said she hopes that other counties around the state will follow suit and the pressure from politically influential Ohio will force the Bush administration to implement a timetable for withdrawl.
The resolution, which Kokoski introduced, calls for a timeline to be developed and followed.
Kokoski said the death of Airman 1st Class Eric Barnes, killed June 10 by an improvised explosive device while on convoy duty in Iraq, and other casualties prompted her move:
“I think we’ve done all that we can do there and it’s time to bring our troops home.”
