ELYRIA — A 21-year-old man was shot and injured early Wednesday, and police say they aren’t sure how because they’ve received conflicting stories from witnesses.
All they know is Leland Mills was at a home on the 200 block of High Street sometime before 3 a.m. when he was shot, police said. He was then loaded into a gray Chrysler 300 and driven to EMH Medical Center by Michael Lewis, 23, also of Elyria.
Lewis didn’t stick around to talk to police, but he later was spotted on West River Road North by a Lorain County sheriff’s deputy. When the deputy tried to stop the car, Lewis bailed and started running, police said. After a short chase, Elyria police Lt. Andy Eichenlaub said Lewis was taken into custody and charged with obstructing official business. He told police that he knew Mills, was with him on High Street and took him to the hospital after the shooting.
