ELYRIA — Work will continue on the New York Central train depot thanks to a $400,000 federal grant.

With the new money from the U.S. Department of Transportation, the renovation could be completed as early as 2011 because the third and fourth phases will deal mostly with upgrades to the interior of the facility, Cordes said.
Plans for the project began in 2001, but the county has been forced to wait for outside money to dribble in.
“Operating within spending limitations has been a struggle, but we’ve continued on because we’re using outside dollars to help inside Lorain County,” Cordes said.
