GRAFTON - For local jeweler Scot Kuhns, there is nothing more rewarding than being a part of an engaged or married couple's life.

Kuhns started in the jewelry business at Brandau Jewelers in Elyria.. Kuhns attended the Gemological Institute of American where he earned his accredited jeweler professional and diamond graduate certificates. He also attended Drouhard National Jewelers' School where he earned jewelry repair and advanced diamond setting certificates.

It was during his time working in Elyria that he noticed several customers from southern Lorain County would often travel looking for jewelry for their special occasions.

"In dealing with customers in Lorain County for the last 10 years, I've noticed a need for a jeweler in the Grafton/LaGrange area," Kuhns said.

Although we are in a recession, Kuhns said people will still get married, have anniversaries and birthdays. Watch batteries will still need replaced and jewelry, clocks and watches will need repaired.

The focus of Village Jewelry and Repair is on jewelry, clock and watch services. All repair work is done (for jewelry, watches and clocks) is done on the premises.

Kuhns also deals directly with gold refiners, which means money in the pocket of his customers.

"Customers can bring in anything made out of gold, platinum or silver and I will evaluate it for cash exchange," he said.

The store carries unique, instyle diamond engagement, wedding and anniversary rings. Kuhns also has many one-of-a-kind colored stone pieces. They are now carrying Howard Miller clocks and Pulsar Watches.

Kuhns said he feels confident his store will be a success because he provides the old-fashioned customer service everyone knows in a relaxed environment.

Additionally, Village Jewelry and Repair has merchandise and services at low, competitive prices because the overhead is low.

Store hours: Tue, Wed, Fri, 9 to 5pm Thur, 9 to 6pm Sat, 9 to 2pm Closed Sunday Monday.
