• DIRECTIONS: Drive to Bellevue via the Ohio Turnpike, State Rt. 113 or U.S. Rt. 20. Take Rts. 113-20 west through Bellevue to Clyde. As you enter Clyde, McPherson Cemetery will be on your right at the intersection of E. Maple Street. Go left on E. Maple. E. Maple becomes W. Maple at the intersection of Main Street. Stay on W. Maple to Race Street. Turn left on Race Street to the high school, which will be on the right. The softball field is at the rear of the parking lot.

• TOURNAMENT TRAIL: The Eagles defeated Toledo Whitmer 12-8 and Oregon Clay 4-0 in sectionals. Notre Dame then defeated Toledo Central Catholic 2-0 in the district semifinals and Sylvania Southview 8-6 in the district finals. The Eagles then defeated North Royalton 6-4, in 10 innings, in Wednesday’s regional semifinals.

• The Eagles completed their first season in the newly formed Three Rivers Athletic Conference after previously playing in the Toledo City League.

• Sophomore pitcher Cassie Gillespie has a 10-4 record and also leads her team with a .416 batting average.

• Notre Dame Academy was the sixth-seeded team in the Maumee District and had to defeat the Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 5 teams to win the district title.

• Although the Eagles only have two seniors on the roster, they entered the 2012 season with eight returning starters.

• Notre Dame Academy is an all-girls school located on Toledo’s west side. The school sponsors 15 interscholastic sports, including crew and broomball.

• AT STAKE: A spot in the Final Four at Firestone Stadium in Akron. The winner will be the visiting team at 4:30 p.m. Friday against either second-ranked Poland Seminary (25-2) or unranked Akron Hoban (15-15). They play in Firestone Stadium at noon today for the Akron regional championship.

• WHERE: Bucyrus High School, 900 West Perry St., Bucyrus


• DIRECTIONS: Take any of a number of routes west to State Route 4, east of Bellevue. Drive south to Bucyrus. Turn right on River Street, just before the bridge. River Street becomes West Perry at the first stop sign. Proceed through the intersection to the high school, which will be on the right.

• Momentum might by on Keystone’s side after the Wildcats came from behind to defeat Clear Fork on Wednesday.

• The Wildcats now have a state-record 44 home runs for the season. Pitcher Kenzie Conrad, who hit the 44th against Clear Fork, is 22-0 in the circle.

• Keystone seeks its 12th Final Four appearance and third state championship.

• The Wildcats were state runners-up to Poland Seminary last season. If both win today, they will meet again Friday.

• The Indians are playing in their first regional championship game. They were defeated in the semifinals the past two seasons, last year by Keystone.

• Shawnee and Licking Valley were tied 1-1 in the top of the seventh inning of Thursday’s semifinal. The Indians erupted for four runs on five hits.

• Indians pitcher Sam Bullock struck out seven and walked none in the semifinal. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate.

• Of Keystone, Shawnee coach Lou Seddelmeyer was quoted as saying: “They’re going to be tough. We’re going to have to come to play. We’re going to bring our best game.”

• WHERE: Massillon Community Park

• AT STAKE: The winner advances to the state tournament semifinals Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Firestone Stadium in Akron. The winner will play the Fairborn regional champion — either Batavia Clermont Northeast or Felicity-Franklin.


• DIRECTIONS: Head east on state Route 224 until reaching Exit 13A, which leads you south on state Route 21. After driving approximately 21 miles on Route 21, take the state Route 241 exit toward Oberlin Avenue. Turn right on Finefrock Road SW until reaching the park, which is 1⁄5 of a mile past 17th Street.

• TOURNAMENT TRAIL: Opened with 4-0 sectional final victory over Brooklyn. Eliminated Garfield Heights Trinity 7-1 in district semifinals, then beat Columbia 12-1 to capture North Ridgeville district title. Defeated Canton Central Catholic 11-6 in regional semifinals.

• The Pirates are seeking their first trip to the state tournament. This is their initial regional appearance.

• Black River’s 11 runs against Canton Central Catholic were the second-highest total in the statewide Division III regional semifinals.

• The Pirates are 17-2 with ace pitcher Dagmar Smith in the lineup, but went 5-7 when she was sidelined with a lower back strain.

• Center fielder Chidsey was an All-Medina County guard in basketball, while catcher Goff played libero for Black River’s volleyball team.

• The Golden Flashes have won four state championships and are the reigning

Division III title holders.

• All-Ohio senior pitcher Lindsay Swipas is 19-0 with a 0.39 ERA and 233 strikeouts this spring. She went 19-0 with a 0.97 ERA and 167 strikeouts last season.

• Champion coach Cheryl Weaver, who took over the program in 1999, ranks 41st in OHSAA history with 255 career victories.

• Kizer has knocked in a team-high 24 runs for the Golden Flashes, who were ranked fifth in the final state coaches poll.
