Prep football: Dave Dlugosz to take Avon Lake reins again; ex-Midview coach Bill Albright to be offensive coordinator

There will be two familiar faces on the Avon Lake sideline this coming football season.

Longtime Shoremen head coach Dave Dlugosz will return to the helm and former longtime Midview coach Bill Albright will be his offensive coordinator, The Chronicle-Telegram has learned.

The pair will be recommended for the positions Tuesday at 7 p.m. at a school board meeting at the high school.

Both Dlugosz and Albright declined to comment when reached Friday night.

Dlugosz, who retired at the end of the 2012 season after 21 years as the Shoremen’s coach, has a 200-44 record and has led the Shoremen to the playoffs 15 times. He’s also won 18 conference championships, a state title (2003) and had a state runner-up finish (2004).

Dlugosz remained on the football staff last season as an assistant coach to Larry Laird, Dlugosz’s longtime assistant who left to become the head coach at Strongsville in March after just one season.

The Shoremen finished last season 8-3, including a season-ending 28-21 loss to Medina Highland in the first round of the Division II playoffs.

Albright stepped down at the end of last year after spending 37 years at Midview, the last 28 as head coach. He has a career record of 172-104 and has been to the playoffs seven times.
