It had to happen, right? There couldn’t be a spring sports postseason in Northeast Ohio without some weather worries, could there?
Apparently not, because Thursday, for the first time this postseason, rain messed up the best-laid plans of tournament officials and baseball and softball coaches.
The result was a pair of Division I district baseball games being washed out completely and two district softball games being suspended.
In baseball, Thursday’s games at The Pipe Yard in Lorain were pushed back to today with Midview playing Lakewood at 2 p.m. and Amherst and Avon Lake squaring off at 5 p.m. The final is set for Saturday at 6 p.m. at The Pipe Yard.
In softball, the Division II final between Clearview and Firelands at LaGrange Community Park made it all the way to the sixth inning with the Clippers leading
1-0. The game will resume today at 4:30 with the winner earning a spot in next week’s regional at Bucyrus High School.
In Division III, two semifinals set for North Ridgeville High School will move to Victory Park in North Ridgeville today. Columbia and Brooklyn will start things off at noon with Brooklyn ahead 1-0 in the second inning. Trinity and Independence will meet in the second game at 2 p.m.
The final has been moved to Saturday back at North Ridgeville High School at a time still to be determined.
