Police: Mother of alleged bully punches woman at school

BRUNSWICK — A Brunswick woman was charged with assault after she punched another woman in the face Tuesday afternoon while waiting to pick up her child at Willetts Middle School, according to Brunswick police.

As parents waited in their cars for their children to be released from school, police said Connie L. Edmiston, 42, of 4234 Grafton Road, punched another mother she said called her son a “bully.”

Based on witness statements, police said Edmiston approached the victim’s car and told her to get out. When the woman rolled down the window, Edmiston reached inside and punched her in the face.

A witness reported Edmiston’s 13-year-old son was standing next to her when the alleged assault occurred. One witness yelled at Edmiston to stop hitting the victim before calling 911, police said.

The victim told police she had scolded Edmiston’s son earlier in the school year after she said she saw him “bully” other students while waiting to pick up her son. The victim said Edmiston was yelling about “calling her son a bully” when she approached the car.

After the incident, Edmiston got into her truck and drove away, but one parent said he followed her in an attempt to get her license plate number. When they were stopped at a traffic light, Edmiston got out of her car to ask the man why he was following her and taking photos of her. He also snapped a photo of Edmiston when she approached his car, police said.

The victim was transported to Southwest General Hospital for treatment as a precaution because she suffers from multiple sclerosis and a blow to the head could be life-threatening. At the hospital, the victim identified Edmiston from the photo snapped by the witness, police said.

Edmiston came to the Brunswick Police Department shortly after the incident to speak to officers. She told police she never hit the woman and that the victim had spit in her face, police said.

Edmiston refused to fill out a written statement, police said, and she was arrested at the station on assault charges.
