A 46-year-old Elyria man has been jailed in connection with a reported armed altercation with a family member.

Jason Sherrill, of Clark Street, has been charged with using weapons while intoxicated and inducing panic. He also was found to have an outstanding warrant on a domestic violence charge.

Police were called to the 100 block of Clark Street at 2:48 p.m. Thursday for reports of a man walking around carrying a shotgun. There, police made contact with Sherrill. According to a report, Sherrill told police that during an argument with a family member, who had suggested he was armed as well, he got out a shotgun and “racked a round” to intimidate him.

The report said Sherrill smelled of alcohol and was put in a police cruiser. A 12-gauge shotgun was also taken from the home.

Police searched an abandoned home on Clark Street on a tip that the other man might have broken into it, but didn’t find anyone.

Sherrill is in custody pending an initial court appearance.
