AVON LAKE — A bicyclist was seriously injured and flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland following a hit-and-run crash on Lake Road just after 4 p.m. Wednesday.
The victim’s name was not released by Avon Lake police.
The vehicle that allegedly struck the bicyclist was said to be dark-colored with tinted windows and possibly was a Ford Focus hatchback. It had not been found as of 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to Avon Lake police.
Police said several calls were received about the collision on Lake Road at its intersection with Moore Road, where witnesses gave a description of the car to responding officers. They told officers the car left the area headed south on Moore Road after hitting the bicyclist with its driver’s side.
Witnesses told police the car was westbound on Lake Road when it cut the turn going left of center to head south on Moore Road. When it made the turn, it struck the bicyclist, who was eastbound on the south side of Lake Road, according to Avon Lake police.
The bicyclist was picked up by a helicopter at the Avon Lake Fire Department and flown to MetroHealth from there, according to Avon Lake police.
