A Vermilion woman was seriously injured in a crash that killed a Huron man.
According to a release from the Ohio Highway Patrol, Vivian Miller, 87, of Vermilion, was driving a 2012 Ford Escape west on U.S. 6 in Berlin Township, Erie County, on Wednesday. The statement said she tried to turn left into a parking lot, and failed to yield the right of way to Matthew Solberg, 51, of Huron, who was riding a 1997 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Solberg and his passenger, Jacquilyn Dowell, 44, of Huron, were thrown from the bike. Neither were wearing helmets.
Solberg was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where he died of his injuries at 11:45 p.m. Thursday. Dowell was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center and later transferred to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she is listed in stable condition, according to a nursing supervisor Friday night.
Miller was taken to Firelands as well, with what were termed serious injuries. She was in stable condition, a Firelands spokeswoman said. Miller’s passenger, Lisa Pickett of Huron, was treated and released at the scene. Both Miller and Pickett were wearing seat belts.
The crash remains under investigation.
