ELYRIA — An Elyria man has been arrested and accused of raping a 5-year-old female after the child’s mother reported her suspicions to police over the weekend.
Timothy Minnich, 20, is being held without bond in Lorain County Jail pending his arraignment today in Elyria Municipal Court. He is charged with one count of rape, a first-degree felony.
Elyria police spokesman Capt. Chris Costantino said investigators learned that the child had “said some concerning things to the mother,” who on Sunday filed a police report.
Detectives brought Minnich in for questioning Thursday, and he “admitted he had raped a 5-year-old girl,” Costantino said.
Lorain County Jail records did not show any prior arrests for Minnich, and police likewise were not aware of any prior criminal record, Costantino said. He said he did not know if Minnich is employed, or where.
Detectives are continuing to investigate, and additional or amended charges are possible once the case is presented to a Lorain County grand jury.
Costantino urged any member of the public with knowledge of Minnich or “who had any concerns or issues with him” to call Elyria police at (440) 323-3302.
