Lorain Councilman Angel Arroyo faces charges including operating a vehicle impaired after a car crash Monday night.
Lorain police responded to a car wreck at the intersection of Pearl Avenue and East 28th Street around 10:30 p.m. According to a report, Arroyo said he was making a right turn from Pearl onto East 28th when he was struck by another car. The report states that the front of Arroyo’s car, a 2014 Toyota Scion, was totaled.
The traffic crash report states Arroyo ran a stop sign, hitting the other car.
The report states Arroyo had red eyes and smelled of alcohol, and exhibited other behaviors typically associated with people who are intoxicated.
Arroyo was uncooperative, police said, and refused field sobriety tests as well as a breath test at the Lorain Police Station. County jail records state Arroyo was booked at 1:08 a.m. today on charges of operating a vehicle impaired, violation of implied consent, failure to maintain assured clear distance and expired license plates.
He was released on bond totaling $2,100, and is due to make an initial appearance on the charges in Lorain Municipal Court on Thursday.
Arroyo already faces charges of domestic violence and resisting arrest from an incident in January. He faces a pre-trial hearing on those charges March 26, according to Lorain Municipal Court records.
Arroyo did not file petitions last month to run for re-election to Lorain council. saying he needed to focus on family issues.
