ELYRIA — A Lorain man accused of robbing a Griswold Road hotel early Wednesday morning was taken into custody on a felony robbery charge Wednesday night in Toledo.
Elyria police spokesman Capt. Chris Costantino said the Wood County Sheriff’s Office notified Elyria police about 10 p.m. Wednesday that 20-year-old D’Angelo Davis was in its custody. Davis was wanted in connection with the 2 a.m. robbery of the Best Western hotel at 636 Griswold Road, Costantino said.
Elyria officers took custody of Davis at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday and had him in Elyria Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Thursday for arraignment on charges including robbery, a second-degree felony, assault and aggravated menacing, both first-degree misdemeanors.
Davis was being held in Lorain County Jail on $12,000 bond Thursday, the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office said.
Costantino said at 2:04 a.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to the Best Western after a female clerk said she was staffing the counter when an unidentified man entered the lobby, jumped the service counter and demanded money.
The man told the clerk she would get hurt if she didn’t comply, and she opened the cash drawer and gave the man an undisclosed amount of money, Costantino said.
Following an investigation, “detectives put a case together and linked D’Angelo Davis to this robbery,” Costantino said.
