ELYRIA — Two male suspects were reported in custody Monday night after allegedly trying to rob a teenage woman at knifepoint outside Walgreens on Cleveland Street.
Daniel Kelly III, 18, of Lorain, faces charges of assault, tampering with evidence, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and felonious assault. He is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Elyria Municipal Court today. Ali Thompson, 20, of Elyria, faces charges of assault, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary. He is also scheduled for an initial appearance today in Elyria Municipal Court.
A 17-year-old woman said she had left Walgreen’s around 7:15 p.m. Monday, and two men she didn’t recognize came up to her as she was getting into the car and said her brother owed them $50. Both appeared to have been drinking, the woman told police, and one, allegedly Kelly, was holding a knife. The woman told police Thompson punched her. She got in her vehicle and left.
Kelly and Thompson were arrested about a half-hour later, after police were called for reports of a break-in at a home on Ohio Street.
“I’m happy to report that two people are in custody, who are responsible for these two incidents,” Elyria police Capt. Chris Costantino said.
