A Wakeman man was pronounced dead at the scene of an early-morning crash on Middle Ridge Road in Amherst Township.

According to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Tyler Mayo, 32, was driving a 2005 Ford Explorer east on Middle Ridge, just west of Quarry Road, at 3:23 a.m. The sport-utility vehicle went off the left side of the road, striking a tree and then overturning. The Explorer was found on its roof in the roadway.

Mayo was pronounced dead at the scene. Matthew Clow, 30, of Amherst, was a passenger in the Explorer. He was taken by LifeCare to Amherst Hospital for what were termed non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
