LORAIN — A man died after a rollover crash early Saturday morning.
The Lorain Fire Department responded to the call about 3:30 a.m. at West 16th Street and Oberlin Avenue. According to a news release from Lorain police, a silver 2002 GMC Envoy was traveling south on Oberlin Avenue at a high rate of speed. After crossing over the railroad tracks in the 1300 block, the sport-utility vehicle went airborne. When it landed, it rotated, hit the curb and started rolling over, ejecting the driver, identified by police as Kacy Thorpe, 31, of Lorain.
Thorpe, who was not wearing his seat belt, was unresponsive when emergency crews arrived, said Assistant Fire Chief Roy Cochran. He was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The road was closed for about six hours after the crash. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Officer Robert Hargreaves at the police traffic bureau at (440) 204-2115.
