Elyria man charged after allegedly robbing Sheffield Circle K

An Elyria man is due in Lorain Municipal Court after allegedly robbing the Circle K in Sheffield Township early Monday morning.

According to a news release from the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report of a robbery in progress at the Circle K at 4819 Broadway at 3:12 a.m. Monday. When they arrived, they saw a black man wearing a ski mask getting money from the cash register. Lorain police officers were also called to the scene.

The alleged robber, identified by police as Taru Smith, 19, came out of the store and was arrested without incident, the news release stated. He had cash and cigars that deputies believe were taken from the store, as well as a .22-caliber handgun.

Smith was charged with aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon.
