A bicyclist was struck and killed by a minivan on a Lorain street Sunday night.
According to a news release from Lorain police, Haylee Henderson, 21, was driving a gray 2005 Chrysler Town and Country minivan west on West Erie Avenue around 11:34 p.m. Sunday. Police said the minivan hit a bicycle, veered across Erie Avenue and came to rest after striking a row of trees.
The bicyclist was identified as Laqua Butler, 38, of Lorain. Butler, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene.
Henderson was unhurt, as was an infant in the minivan with her. Police say Henderson was suspected to be under the influence at the time of the crash. She was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center for evaluation, and the case will be presented to the county prosecutor’s office after the investigation is finished.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information about it is asked to call Officer Kyle Gelenius at (440) 204-2115.
