Girl says stranger approached her at school bus stop in LaGrange Township

LaGRANGE TWP. — Lorain County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating an incident that took place Wednesday on Whitney Road where a girl said she was approached at her school bus stop by a suspicious man.

Chief Deputy Dennis Cavanaugh said the child was waiting for the bus about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday when a man in a passing dark pickup turned off his lights, stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road and got out.

He said the man “discarded something in the ditch” by the roadside and turned toward the girl.

“She said it looked like he was coming toward her,” Cavanaugh said.

The girl ran back to her home and reported the incident. Cavanaugh said there was “no conversation” between the girl and the man, and she was not touched.

Traffic was approaching, so the man got back into the truck and left the area, Cavanaugh said.

“We really don’t know exactly what we’ve got,” he said Thursday, but deputies increased patrols in the area Thursday and plan to be back out in the area today.

Keystone Schools also was alerted, Cavanaugh said, and the girl acted appropriately for the situation. “We’re glad she did what she did,” he said.

Anyone with any information on the incident or who saw anything suspicious in the area Thursday morning is asked to call the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office at (440) 329-3709.
