ELYRIA — An Elyria man was arraigned Wednesday in Elyria Municipal Court on multiple charges after he was accused of hitting his girlfriend with his car door and fighting with police Tuesday afternoon.
Officers were called to the 1000 block of Melvyn Lane at 3:56 p.m. and questioned witnesses and the caller about the incident.
Witnesses told police Samuel Marmolejos, 23, and his girlfriend started arguing in the home and he pushed her and headed toward his Volkswagen. She followed him out of the home, was standing near his open car door and, while they were arguing, he put the car in reverse and the car door struck her, witnesses said.
He then got out of the vehicle and started walking down the street, witnesses told police.
After a brief search, officers found him and when Marmolejos ignored officers’ demands to walk to a cruiser and put his hands behind his head, they placed him under arrest, police said.
Officers said he fought them, and they wrestled him to the ground. They also said he tried to reach into one of the officer’s pockets during the struggle.
He was charged with assaulting a police officer, obstructing official business, resisting arrest, two counts of domestic violence and assault.
Marmolejos had a total bond set at $12,250 with a preliminary hearing scheduled at 2 p.m. Oct. 29.
