Names released in fatal Lorain bicycle crash


LORAIN — Lorain Police have released the names of those involved in a fatal bicycle and vehicle crash Sept. 12.

Police were called to the scene at West 21st Street, west of Westpark Drive, about 9:30 p.m. after a 2005 Buick LaCrosse heading east on West 21st Street collided with a bicyclist, who was going west in the eastbound lane of traffic.

The cyclist, identified as Christopher Clifford, 51, of Lorain, sustained fatal injuries in the crash. He was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and is suspected to be under the influence of drugs.

The driver of the Buick was identified as David Zeiter, 62, of Lorain. He was not injured, and neither was his passenger, Darlene Pongracz, 66, of Vermilion. The incident remains under investigation, and a case will be presented to the city’s prosecutor once complete. No charges have been filed.
