LORAIN — A Lorain woman asked police Saturday to check on a man who Wellington police said was shot in their town Aug. 18.

The victim, an NN Corp. employee, was shot about 3 a.m. in the company’s parking lot at 125 Bennet St. by an unknown man. Police said the victim was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland and at that time was listed in stable condition, suffering a single gunshot wound to his right shoulder.

In the Saturday report made to Lorain police, the 42-year-old woman told police she is the victim’s fiancée and hadn’t heard from him since Aug. 19. The woman said she spoke to him over the phone where he told her “some ninja” shot him. She told police it was odd of him to say that, and she hasn’t heard from him since that day.

She later learned he was discharged from the hospital Aug. 19, she told police.

Wellington Police Chief Tim Barfield said they are aware of the victim’s location and remain in contact with him. Barfield said he wasn’t aware of the Lorain police report and plans to look into it immediately. Barfield said officers are still “working theories” of the incident but currently have nothing more to share with the public.

“We don’t know who shot him, and we don’t know why and that what scares us,” he said.

The woman couldn’t be reached.
