Homeless man accused of breaking into Elyria church

ELYRIA – An Elyria man was charged with breaking and entering into the Elyria Baptist Church on Wednesday morning, according to a police report.

Officers came to the church on Washington Avenue around 10:42 a.m. The property manager told officers a man broke through one of the windows and was sleeping in the basement.

Police found Deven Kilgore, 22, who said he was homeless and needed a place to sleep.The property manager first reported a break-in Tuesday, according to another police report, when the broken window was first discovered, but at that time no one was found in the building.

Officers charged Kilgore with breaking and entering, and sent him to the Lorain County Jail with a $2,500 bond.
