ELYRIA — An Elyria man has pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated vehicular homicide in connection with a 2016 crash that left a motorcyclist dead.
Danny Emery, 30, of Elmwood Street, pleaded guilty to a third-degree felony count of aggravated vehicular homicide and failure to stop after a crash, according to court documents.
Emery was involved in a crash Nov. 5, 2016, on North Ridge Road in Elyria Township. The Ohio Highway Patrol reported Emery’s 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt collided with a motorcycle driven by 23-year-old Tyler Marrero.
County Prosecutor Dennis Will said Emery’s car cut off Marrero’s motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to hit a rear quarter panel.
Emery left the scene and was tracked down at his home, authorities said. Marrero was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The case was schedule to go to trial today.
According to court documents, Emery was referred to the county’s presentence investigation department for a presentence evaluation and report. A date for sentencing has yet to be set.
Emery is free after posting $50,000 bond in June 2017, according to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.
