LORAIN — A 22-year-old Lorain man died Sunday morning in a single-car crash on West Erie Avenue.
Lorain police have determined the 2005 Chrysler Town & Country driven by James D. Updegrove Jr. was traveling west on West Erie Avenue when Updegrove lost control after passing Frankie Drive. The minivan went off the right side of the road, became airborne and began rolling, police said. The driver was ejected on the final rotation and the vehicle landed on top of him.
Updegrove was pronounced dead at the scene. Police suspect he wasn’t wearing a seat belt and that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
The road was closed for three hours so police could investigate.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or may have information related to it to call Lorain police Officer Kyle Gelenius at (440) 204-2115.
