BROWNHELM TWP. — A 55-year-old Elyria man was flown to a hospital following a pair of crashes on state Route 2 near the Baumhart Road interchange.
Shortly before noon Friday, police and emergency workers were called to Route 2 eastbound after a motorcycle crash.
According to Ohio Highway Patrol Trooper Clayton Conrad, a tarp blew off a dump truck, and a motorcyclist ran over the tarp, lost control and crashed. The motorcyclist was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain. Police have not released names of the drivers involved in the crash.
While traffic was slowed because of the intial crash, motorcyclist Donald Helbig rear-ended a Chevrolet Cruze driven by Dennis Petty, police said. Helbig was flown from the scene with an apparent head injury.
