Avon police Officer James Cline, 30, was charged with misdemeanor assault in connection with his arrest at Jack Casino in Cleveland for disorderly conduct while intoxicated earlier this month.
He is on administrative leave from the Avon Police Department following the April 6 incident. While off-duty, Cline allegedly assaulted a security guard at the downtown casino while intoxicated. He pleaded not guilty to the disorderly conduct charge April 9. The Avon Police Department was made aware of Cline’s misdemeanor assault charge April 25, and an internal investigation is ongoing.
“Once we have all the reports related to the incident we can then complete the Internal Investigation that had been started when we were originally notified of his incident,” Avon police public information officer Jim Drozdowski wrote in a statement. “The findings of the Internal Investigation will be turned over to the Police Chief listing any and all violations of the City of Avon Police Department. Any disciplinary action will then proceed according to the collective bargaining agreement in place.”
According to Cleveland court documents, a pretrial hearing has been scheduled and the case is continued until 9:30 a.m. May 9.
